The West Hawaii County band, a 20-piece brass band comprised of community members, will perform a free concert at 6:30 p.m. this evening at Hale Halawai in Kailua Village.
The theme of this month’s concert is “Delights of March.” The concert will feature marches by John Philip Sousa, traditional band music by Percy Grainger and more. Attendees are invited to celebrate their Irish heritage with Leroy Anderson’s “Irish Suite” including “The Rakes of Mallow” and “The Girl I left Behind Me.” Rounding out the program will be the music of “Porgy and Bess” including “I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin’ and “Summertime.”
Conducted by Lisa Archuletta, the band rehearses weekly and performs regular monthly concerts at Hale Halawai. Its repertoire includes march favorites, traditional brass band music, big band tunes and Hawaiian traditional tunes.
